Rabbinic Response to 9/11
The horrors of September 11, 2001 occurred just before the Jewish High Holidays (that is, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur). The combination of events meant that an extraordinary number of people turned to their religious leaders for words that could both make sense of unspeakable tragedy and provide perspective on the holy ten-day period of reflection and atonement. This site collects a great many sermons given by rabbis in the U.S. and Canada during those difficult weeks. Judaism is a diverse faith, and these writings emanate from all viewpoints; together they provide a thunderous response to horror, fear and despair.
